KÖRINFO

Nitrobacter winogradsky lives in soils, in both fresh water and salt water.
It is a Gram-negative bacterium.
It has rod shaped cells which divide through polar swelling. It moves with flagella. It contains an asymmetrical membrane structure, carboxysomes along with intracellular inclusion bodies.
It can grow under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. Its alternative respiration form is nitrate-respiration, mening the utilisation of nitrate as  electron acceptor under  anoxic conditions. It is a beneficial activity, because the nitrate surplus is eliminated from waters, groundwaters and soils.
